As the weather warms up, most of us are spending our time outdoors when we can. I compiled a list of a few sunscreen items for you to consider. I’m still in the process of trying different products but so far I’ve been enjoying these products.
A good facial sunscreen is one of the most important steps to skincare. It helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays that can cause premature aging, skin damage and skin cancer. I’ll be making a post soon about UV rays and sunscreen.
The Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream in SPF 38 is something that I’ve been using for a while now. Unfortunately I think they’re phasing this one out. I believe they’re replacing it with the new Urban Environment UV Protection Cream in SPF 40 – which do be honest, I do not like as much. But if you can get your hands on this, I highly recommend it.
Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 9.3%, Octinoxate 5.9%
I’ve been preparing a back up sunscreen to replace my beloved Shiseido and found TarteGuard SPF 30. When I tried this in store, I really like how creamy and smooth it was. Milan is already liking this one more than the Shiseido, her words were: it’s less sticky, less shiny, and less white. Sounds very promising and the fact that it’s a physical sunscreen, makes me happier. $38 CAD for 1.7 oz.
Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide 3.36%, Zinc Oxide 4.13%
Next up, I have Coola Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30. I like this for retouching my sunscreen without ruining my makeup. Sometimes I would take this and spritz it around my neck and ears. If I’m out for extended hours, I try to throw this in my purse for touch-up. Smells quite nice, like cucumbers.
Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 2.1%, Homosalate 3.5%, Octinoxate 3.5%, and Octisalate 2.8%
An easily over looked area. Lips. Some lipsticks has a built-in SPF, others do not. Since I’m not sure which one has what, I’ll apply L’occitane’s Peony Lip Balm as a base before my lipstick. The smell is quite pleasant. In terms of texture it’s more firm and dense compared to Fresh’s Sugar lip balm, overall it’s very decent but if you’re looking for intense hydration, I don’t think this is the right product. SPF 25. $20 CAD.
Sun Bum Face Stick SPF 30. This is meant for the face but I keep it in my purse for the neck and other exposed area. I like the fact that it’s small, smells like bananas and easy to slap on. Overall pretty comfortable on the skin. $9.99 CAD.
Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 2.00%, Homosalate 15.00%, Octinoxate 7.50%, Octisalate 5.00%
This hand cream quickly became a favorite. It has a very pleasant smell, feels very nourishing, and it’s supposed to prevent and lighten age spots. I already recommended this to my mom. Hopefully they start shipping their items to Canada, I’m dying to get my hands on their products. $12 USD.
Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 10.0%, Octinoxate 7.0%, Octocrylene 5.0%
This is the first sunscreen for the body that I’m actually okay with. I’ve tried many in the past, this sunscreen is easy to spread and feels okay on the skin. Although if you touch your skin you can feel that there is something there. I also should note the smell of this is on the stronger side (banana & coconut?). $17.99 CAD.
