I always preferred to shop at my local Shopper Drug Mart vs Wal-Mart. Why? I prefer the shopping experience. Not to mention, many Shoppers locations expanded with their Beauty Boutiques (they also launched a new website today: https://www.beautyboutique.ca) – so you can find brands like Dior, Clarins, Shiseido, Clinique, Urban Decay, Stila, Benefit – and at fancier boutiques: Chanel, YSL, Guerlain.
Now I know there are a lot of people who think Shoppers is pricey, while I do agree to an extent – yes, if you’re looking at everyday household items and compare them at regular price, Wal-Mart is cheaper. But if you shop the sale items during bonus point events, those points add up much faster than you think. Today I’ll share with you a few tips on how to collect and spend your points.
- Download the App
They send you personalized coupons every week, so you don’t have to wait for the mail offers or for the weekly flyer anymore. Basically you get bonus offers on products you normally buy – from my experience it’s very customized to me.
- Shop during bonus points events
Usually this will come in the form of “get 20X the points when you spend $50/75” or “get 16,000 points when you spend $60 in cosmetics” – something along those lines. Shoppers normally run these event very frequently (usually mid-week and on the weekend), so I would say hold out on your purchases until then. Unless I need something right away, I’ll end up making a list of items I need (cleaning supplies, medicine, toothpaste, you name it) and I’ll wait until they have an event or if I have a coupon for bonus points.
- Monitor your spending
If you’re only awarded X amount of points, aim to hit the bare minimum needed for the bonus point offer. Honestly, every time I add an item to my cart I add the total amount to my iPhone calculator.
Double check during check-out, sometimes certain items are actually on sale (without being marked), so in the event you’re a few dollars shy just grab something to add to your purchase.
- Use those coupons
Usually Shoppers will offer you bonus points for purchasing your favorite items or discount. Double check your app.
- If you can – wait for the “Spend Your Points Event”
Ideally you should wait until you’ve hit the 95,000 mark to spend your points (valued at $170). During a “spend your points” event, usually you can redeem 95,000 for $200 (that’s an extra $30 dollars).
- Splurge on beauty items
I usually go to a Shoppers location with a good Beauty Boutique. As much as I love Sephora, I do love how convenient it is to shop my favorite brands. Normally you need to spend $50 -75 to earn bonus points (which can be hard if you’re only buying household supplies), buying beauty items is an easy way to earn points. I also want to note that, during the “spend your points” event, I normally reserve my points to go wild with make-up. Last time I redeemed my points, I opted for 5 lipsticks (2 Chanel, 2 Clarins, 1 YSL) – now that’s guilt-free shopping.
